“We were buried therefore with Christ by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Romans 6:1–4.”

What Is Water Baptism?

It’s a public declaration of your faith in Jesus and a powerful next step in your spiritual journey. It symbolizes your old life being buried with Christ and your new life raised with Him, reflecting the transformation that happens in your heart. Jesus Himself was baptized and taught His followers to do the same.

At First Assembly Church, we believe baptism is an important next step in your journey of following Jesus and we’d love to celebrate that with you!

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Baptism is an important next step of obedience in your journey after you've made a personal decision to follow Jesus. In the Bible, people were baptized soon after believing in Jesus (Acts 2:38, Acts 8:12), following His example and command (Matthew 28:19). If you haven’t taken this next step yet, we would love to walk this out with you! Fill out the form above!

  • Anyone who has made a personal decision to follow Jesus! Water baptism is a response to salvation—not something we do to earn it.

  • Absolutely! We believe children who’ve made a genuine decision to follow Jesus can be water baptized.

Before taking this next step, it’s important that they understand the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and what baptism means.

If your child is interested in being baptized, reach out to us at discipleship@fa.church We’ll connect you with our Kids or Youth Pastor, who will walk with your child to help them understand and prepare for this important decision.

  • If you were baptized as an infant, that was likely a meaningful decision made by your family to dedicate you to God.

In the Bible, however, water baptism always follows a personal decision to follow Jesus (Acts 2:41, Acts 8:12). If you've now made that decision for yourself, we encourage you to be baptized as a public declaration of your own faith and commitment to Christ.

This doesn't take away from your infant baptism—it builds on it as your next step of obedience.

For families with young children, we offer Baby Dedications at FA Church—a special moment to commit to raising your child in the faith.

  • If you were baptized as an infant or don’t remember being baptized, we encourage you to be water baptized after making a personal decision to follow Jesus.

However, if you’ve already been baptized as a believer, there’s no need to be baptized again. Baptism is a one-time public symbol of your new life in Christ.

  • Baptism by immersion involves being fully submerged in water, symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:4).

Baptism by sprinkling involves water being lightly poured or sprinkled over a person. While both methods are practiced in various church traditions, immersion best reflects the biblical pattern seen in the New Testament.

At FA Church, we practice baptism by immersion as a powerful symbol of inward transformation and new life in Christ.

  • No, you don’t need to be a member. If you call FA home or want to take this step of obedience within a church community, we’d be honoured to walk with you.

  • Start by filling out our Baptism Interest Form (link above). After that, you’ll be invited to attend a Baptism Class where we’ll walk you through the meaning and details of your baptism.

  • We offer baptisms several times throughout the year. Once you’ve filled out the form, we’ll keep you in the loop about upcoming opportunities.

  • That’s okay! You don’t need to have everything figured out—just a genuine faith in Jesus and a desire to follow Him.

If you're uncertain, we’d love to connect and help walk you through your decision. Reach out anytime at discipleship@fa.church
