What is the porch?

The Porch is our community wide young adults events that happen 3 times a year: September, January, and May. This will be the time for all Discipleship Groups to gather together to be part of the larger community, and the time for new young adults to sign up to be a part of a Discipleship Group.

“What about the Socials?”

We will continue to have monthly socials but they differ in this way: the socials are not for those in Discipleship Groups, they are for those that currently can’t be part of a DG but still want to be part of the community, or are new to the church. We are called to be disciples of Jesus - you will not be discipled at the Socials, you will be discipled in homes with spiritual mothers and fathers. The Socials are to lead people to the Porch, and the Porch is to lead people to Discipleship Groups.

“Why call it, “The Porch?”

In Tim Kellers article, “Lemonade on the Porch (Part 1): The Gospel in Post-Christendom Society,” Keller describes the need for churches to have a space between the road - outside the church - and the home - the church. This is what he calls, “The Porch.”

We acknowledge that it can be strange and uncomfortable to enter into a strangers home without first meeting them in a neutral space. This is the importance of the Porch. A place to meet the leaders of our groups in a neutral space before entering the home. We deeply trust our the leaders of our DG’s. We know them to be incredible people that love Jesus and can be trusted to disciple the young adults of our church. We believe once you meet them, you will see why we love them so much.
