The Heart of 3 Key Relationships

The heart of our ministry is spiritual adoption. We exist to see young adults adopted and discipled by spiritual mothers and fathers unto discipleship to Jesus. ‘3 Key Relationships,’ is the second pillar of our ministry to see the heart actualized. We are called to be disciples of Jesus. We believe this is only possible if we have 3 Key Relationships: mentors, peers, and mentees.

Mentors:

Someone older and wiser whom you actively pursue.

Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. (Proverbs 19:20 NIV)

We read of Jesus pursuing a small amount of his disciples, but thousands more pursued Him.

Yes, there will be some mentors that pursue you, but much more likely you will be the one pursing a relationship with a mentor - that’s your job. Be someone worth mentoring - teachable, curious, and one that applies the wisdom and knowledge that’s been shared.

Peers:

Brothers and sisters who you are completely open and honest with whom you bring regular reports of your inner world.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17 NIV)

We don’t believe in accountability, we believe in reportability. Stop waiting on others to check in on you - it is your job to bring your confessions to your peers.

Mentees:

Younger people whom you invite into your life to learn from both your words and actions.

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Are you someone worth following? These were not just the words of Paul to the church of Corinth, these should be the words of all disciples of Jesus as we make disciples of all nations. By the power and grace of the Holy Spirit, with Jesus as our model, we are called to be people worth following.

How will this Happen?

All four of our pillars flow and interact with one another.

If you want a mentor, you should join a Discipleship Group lead by spiritual mothers and fathers. If you want peers, you should be in a group, go to church on Sunday and talk to people, and prioritze being at The Porch, our 3 times a year church wide young adult community nights. If you want mentees, you should serve and be a part of Sunday Services to be with the Junior Highs, grade 5 and 6's, and the kids.

It will also depend on where you are in life, but that’s a few ideas for you.
