 What are YA Discipleship Groups?

The heart of our ministry is spiritual adoption. We exist to see young adults adopted and discipled by spiritual mothers and fathers unto discipleship to Jesus. YA Discipleship Groups is one of the expressions of the heart of our ministry; mothers and fathers leading disciples in homes around food - a spiritual family. We believe the main expression of church should be during the week around a dinner table and everything else comes after that.

Here are the 7 tenants we gather around every time we gather:

1.WE GATHER IN HOMES

In the home is the truest expression of one’s life. True discipleship is doing life together, and a consistent routine of

meeting in the home is where the inward self of one’s life is revealed.

2. WE EAT TOGETHER

Conversations around empty plates after dinner are where lives are changed. In 1 Corinthians 11:33, Paul says, “...when you come together to eat...” Notice the language: when. When we eat together we are also joyfully fulfilling a biblical command.

3. WE’RE PART OF A LARGER COMMUNITY

When we gather, we also remember that we are one many other groups meeting. We value this to embrace the larger community and reject siloing.

4. WE GATHER UNTO DISCIPLESHIP TO JESUS

Yes, we in believe and love community, deep relationships, and doing hobbies with other Christians, but community for community’s sake creators consumers - but community as a byproduct of discipleship creates greater disciples.

5. WE VALUE AND PRACTICE THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

The spiritual disciplines are the practices that have been upheld by the church that make us more like Jesus (prayer, fasting, The Bible, etc.). We gather unto discipleship to Jesus and the spiritual disciplines are the practical vehicles that move us towards Him.

6. WE EMPOWER AND TRUST OUR LEADERS

Each group has its own fingerprint, it’s own heartbeat because of the leaders and disciples in the group. Our leaders know the needs of their groups and we trust them to disciple the young adults of our church with discernment and wisdom.

7. WE PRAY TOGETHER

Prayer is one of the emphasized spiritual disciplines we gather around. Before we eat, we obey the commandment of Jesus to remember Him - His life, death, and resurrection. Our conversations are the sweet incense of the saints that rise in heaven because He hears our conversations as a prayer when we discourse unto His discipleship. We pray to end our time together to seal what has been done by His power and grace.
